Slant ADU

Status: Ideas Project
Type: Accessory Dwelling Unit

Slant is a compact backyard home designed to sit comfortably behind an existing house in Norman, Oklahoma. With limited space and close proximity to the primary dwelling, privacy and independence were central concerns.

The defining move, a shift in the building’s geometry, creates a slant in plan. Rather than aligning directly with the main house, the primary living space pivots to redirect views between the two structures. Windows bring in daylight and connect to the yard while avoiding direct sightlines, allowing the ADU to feel separate despite its proximity.

Inside, the angled layout makes the small footprint feel more open, capturing light from multiple directions and extending living outward into the surrounding yard.
